Illawarra Swim School has been operating for 29 years, originally Toni's Swim School in Shellharbour, then we moved to figtree and now here at West Wollongong, where we have been for 9 years.

Illawarra Swim School is one of the regions longest running schools having taught over 20,000 kids to swim from babies through to national champions, international champions and Para Olympic medallists. Our focus now is on babies, learn to swim and development of good technique.

Swimming Levels:

1)     Waterbabies: 3months to 18/2.5years

This is an ability based program making sure babies love and enjoy the water, once they are happy and confident they’ll move to the next level.  Fun, games, floating and breath control games are for stimulating senses and gross motor skills and bonding with carer.

Class size is a maximum of 8, classes run from Monday to Saturday mornings for a 30 minute class with parents.

Illawarra Swim School has also introduced bedtime babies Tuesday's at 6:00pm.

2)     Nursery: 18 months to 2.5 years

This is a transition class from water/bedtime babies into independent swimming in this class parents have minimal interaction with teaching and working with kids.

Class size is a maximum of 4, classes run from Monday to Saturday mornings for a 30 minute class.

3)     Goldfish: From 2.5years

In this class they are taught to kick with a board, start freestyle swimming and back stroke kick. To move to the next level 10 metres of freestyle unaided is required.

Class size is a maximum of 4, Classes run from Monday to Friday morning and afternoon, as well as Saturday mornings for a 30 minute class and no parents are required in the water.

4)     Seahorse:

In this class they are taught Bi lateral breathing freestyle and full stroke backstroke. To move to the next level 20 metres with correct breathing freestyle and 20 metres full stroke backstroke is required.

Class size is a maximum of 5, Classes run from Monday to Friday morning and afternoon, as well as Saturday mornings for a 30 minute class and no parents are required in the water.

5)     Angelfish:

In this class they are taught more drills and skills to improve skills in freestyle and backstroke with introduction into breaststroke. To move to the next level they need to swim 40 metres freestyle and backstroke with correct breathing and correct breaststroke.

Class size is a maximum of 5, Classes run from Monday to Friday morning and afternoon, as well as Saturday mornings for a 30 minute class and no parents are required in the water.

6)     Minnows:

In this class they are improving freestyle and backstroke with drills and skills, full stroke breaststroke and they start butterfly. To advance to the next level students must swim 40 metres freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke with correct breathing.

Class size is a maximum for 6 for 30 minutes, Classes run Monday to Friday afternoons as well as Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday before school and Saturday mornings.

7)     Wrigglers:

Class size is a maximum of 10 for 45 minutes, Classes run everyday before school and Monday to Friday afternoons. In this class they are introduced to intense training, development stroke class with all competitive swimming strokes and tumble turns in preparation for junior squads. To advance to the next level students need to swim continuously for a minimum of 200metres freestyle with correct technique.

8)     Tadpoles:

Classes run for 1 hour, this is a mini squad class with drills and skills for all strokes for competitive swimming.

9)     Dolphins:

Classes run for 1 hour, this is a squad class with drills and skills for all strokes for competitive swimming.

10)  Adult learn to swim program

This is a learn to swim class for adults with basic technique. Midday and evening classes upon application.
